Our newest obsession: Polarn O. Pyret is in the US!

Public Transport Top

Okay, so we get excited sometimes about new finds, but this one makes us down-right giddy! Polarn O. Pyret (pronounced “poolarn oh Peeret”) is BIG in Sweden- they've been there more than 30 years. Now that the company has 130 stores in Europe, they've taken aim at the US.

Wood Block Print Top Global Theme Eco Top Vine Flower Tights

So, why do we like PO.P so much? We love the bold stripes and fun prints- Check out the Wood Block Print Top for baby, the Global Theme Top for big kids, and these Vine Flower Tights for girls that we are completely lusting after!

Eco Garden Wrap Bodysuit black Nursing Top

We also love that they're super Eco-friendly! PO.P has a line that is made entirely of 100% organic cotton and it's certified to be Eco-friendly from plant to production- so it's not just good for you, it's good for the planet (we like that)! We're completely obsessed with this Garden Wrap Bodysuit for baby and the gorgeous black nursing top for mom.

Stretch Jacket The Wear Everywhere Winter Jacket

Finally, we really love PO.P for their fresh outlook on clothes. They believe that kids need to be kids- so their clothes are easy for kids to get on and off. And they're comfy and durable enough for playing in! And they bring a fresh perspective about rainy days: in Sweden, the kids don't stay inside in rainy weather- they get out and play! PO.P outerwear is designed with that in mind- check out the cozy Stretch Jacket or the Wear Everywhere Winter Jacket.

Right now, Polarn O. Pyret is only available in the US through polarnopyretusa.com, but the company plans to open their first US store on the East Coast shortly. Though they are new to the US, they have definitely landed a spot on our watch list and we expect to see more from PO.P in the future.

Don Fisher, founder of Gap, dies at 81

In San Francisco, Don Fisher has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 81.

In 1969, Fisher and his wife, Doris opened the first Gap store on Ocean Ave. in San Francisco, Ca. The inspiration for the store: Don couldn't find a pair of jeans that fit. So he and Doris invested $63,000 and hired football players from UC Berkeley as their first salespeople. The brand became popular, and the rest is history.

The Gap brand now includes The Gap, Gap Outlet, Gap Kids, Baby Gap, Gap Body, Gap Generation, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime, & Athleta. Their brands are worldwide and they employ more than 134,000 employees and had sales last year of $14.5 Billion.

Though Mr. Fisher had resigned as chief executive in 1994, and as chairman in 2004, he stayed on as a director until his death. He is survived by his wife, Doris, 3 sons, 10 grandchildren and 2 brothers.

Maternity Monday: It's Old Navy!

We're casting off our frills this week and heading to the mall to cover Old Navy's fall maternity line. Why do we love Old Navy? It's simple! Basic styles with a modern edge at a budget-friendly price! Perfection!

A quick check of new arrivals to the website show the typical fare- bright printed tanks and tops, pleats pleats pleats, and an array of cozy-looking knit pants...but then, we found this cute velour set.

The sweater is $20 and the pants are $15.50 and each comes in 4 colors- Sonya Begonia, Tortoise Shell, Goodnight Nora & Black Jack. We love this set because it gives the look like we're taking this whole pregnancy thing in stride! We're going to drop off our big kids at school, run a few errands, maybe do some shopping....who knows? We're busy and comfy!

We also really love this suggested look:

It's a bit college-looking, but it's all so preppy and we love that sometimes! The striped boat neck sweater is $17.70 and comes in 4 colors: Green, Heather Gray, Pink & Yellow. Maternity Low-Rise Boot-Cut Jeans are $27.50 (a bargain!). Studded leather moccasins are $20 and come in an assortment of colors from the natural (Earthy) to the shocking (Bronze). Long Layering Camis are a must have for any maternity wardrobe- they come in a wide assortment of colors and though they're regularly priced at $8.50 each, when you buy 2 or more, they're only $6 each! The finishing touch on this outfit is the floral burnout jersey scarf- available in 5 colors for only $10 each! That gives you this entire look for only $83.70- including shoes!

Snuggie Shows at Fashion Week

In a story FMC first brought you earlier this month, Snuggie has now shown at New York Fashion Week. Yes, while some are seeing shows from top names in couture fashion, others have sought out the comfort of blankets with sleeves- for both people and dogs.

While we had such high hopes for the Snuggie show, sadly, it turns out, they really showed mostly styles that are already in stores. We must say though, that if we were forced to buy large, unflattering, monk-like sleeved blankets, we'd probably go for one of these zoo-inspired numbers above! You never know when you need to blend in on the African Savannah!

And of course, who could forget the Snoggie? We love how form fitting this little Snoggie is on the puppy above. Sadly, if even the dog looks like he doesn't want a Snuggie, then we suppose there's no real reason for us to get one either!

Oh Drew!

This past week, at the Toronto Film Festival, Drew Barrymore, always the risk-taker, rocked a two-toned, retro-inspired hair-do. Oddly enough, the do kinda goes with the Alexander McQueen dress she wore!

In other news, is that Chanel Jade on her fingers, or an imitation?

Maternity Monday finds us Momzee!

Maternity Monday this week brought us to the interesting doorstep of Momzee! We're so sad to say good-bye to Summer, but couldn't help but smile at the thought of welcoming Fall with this yummy Valerie Cardigan in Stone ($89).

The cardi is lightweight, and though we're guessing it's a Spring item, it would would seem to work out perfectly for overheated, Winter-pregnancy mamas in their last trimester. Need something to go with it? We love the thought of these Buttlifter jeans ($99)

According to the website, these jeans have a slimming and lifting effect in the back, making them a hit! Now, really, having a perky bum might not be the most important thing when you're 9 months pregnant, but really, after dealing with swollen ankles, stretch marks, and I-really-don't-want-to-talk-about-it-right-now changes to your body, isn't it nice to not worry about about the rear? We think so. And that's what puts Momzee on our list of companies we like!

Gypsy Blue- We Love You!

The first official pics of Matilda Jane's Gypsy Blue collection have been posted to the Internet, and weather you're a Matilda Jane aficionado or novice, you'll find something to love! We love how this newest collection perfectly blends current trends with the off-the-beaten-path look that only Matilda Jane can deliver time and time again!

Reason number 1 we love Gypsy Blue- Those blue stripes! We love the shade of brown that alternates with them and we know this- those two colors are sure to flatter both blue and brown eyed girls and we love it! You know what else we love about these stripes? They're versatile! We haven't seen the whole collection yet, but we have seen these stripes in both leggings and on tops- meaning you can mix and match your heart out, still have stripes and not have the same look as every other girl with stripes (BONUS!)
Reason number 2 we love Gypsy Blue- That bright and bold, retro-inspired print (it's called "Disco"- which is just one more reason we love it)! It inspires us! It makes us think of the Bradys (in a good way) and almost seems oddly reminiscent of the Marshalls dress that had board mamas in a frenzy last year. We love that print, we can't get enough of it, and we want to see it on everything. It appears we're not alone, because MJ has anticipated our need and we see this print everywhere (LOVE IT!). It's on tops and skirts and even mommy items *swoon* We. Must. Have. This. Print.

Reason number 3 we love Gypsy Blue- Those tights! While multi-colored striped tights typically make us think of something Seuss-like, these beauties are awe-inspiring! The colors are bright, and cheery, a reflection of not only the impeccable taste of the designer, but a statement about childhood in general. That's what it's all about right- wearing things that are playful and fun? We love these tights and declare them an absolute MUST HAVE!

Reason number 4 we love Gypsy Blue- The. Most. Fashionable. Children's. Hoody. Ever. Period. If you get nothing else from Matilda Jane, if your budget is busted, if you're on a shopping wagon and can only get one piece this year- make it the Willow Hooded Cardigan! Our jaws hit the floor when we saw what Denise had done with this hoody. How perfectly she had blended the current style of the wide base of the hood, the thinner fabric, with signature Matilda Jane touches like intricate buttons and ruffled trim. Need more reason to buy it? Lady Gaga wore a similar style just last month!

Gypsy Blue is sure to be a huge success for Matilda Jane! It's out in 2 releases- some pieces are available now and the rest will be available October 1st. All pieces will mix and match!

In case you haven't heard, it's called Fashion's Night Out- The Fashion industry's way of pumping up the economy. The Children's Place Stuns Us

The Children's Place has had their share of ups and downs lately. Earlier this year, they were alleged to have mislead shareholders as to the actual performance of their stock and more recently, their stock has plummeted as they reported a loss of more than $7 million just over this past Summer.

To be brutally honest, it's been months since we've shopped at The Children's Place. Everything this year just seemed so....bright! The styles this year have been the typical cuteness that we've come to expect from The Children's Place, but we just haven't been feeling the colors that almost seem to glow in the dark (maybe they do, we haven't checked). And The Children's Place seemed to spend much of the year throwing coupons at us- from inserts in all the parenting magazines to birthday emails, to mailers- plus all those awesome sales...It broke our hearts to turn our backs on an old friend.

But this morning, checking the new fall collections and they were toned down....not bad....better than not bad...pretty cute....but then....OH THEN....INSPIRATION!

Cutest. Toddler. Shoes. Ever. Period.

We've never been so inspired by a toddler shoe. We want to take it home and love it and create a retro 80's, dark-denim-skinny-jeans look for our toddler with it! *swoon* We want a mommy version! In fact, we might just demand it!

So Children's Place, if you're listening, BRAVO! We still love you! And we love these shoes! And we hope you consider doing an ulta-cool Mommy version of them! We'll be your biggest fans!

Gucci Gives Back!

The givers at Gucci have commissioned author and illustrator Michael Roberts to write a holiday book for them entitled Snowman in Africa. The book is a sequel to 2004's Snowman in Paradise (also sold by Gucci). The book will be sold in Gucci stores and online for $50 and if the price tag seems a bit much, Gucci has announced that 100% of the precedes will be going to UNICEF.

The giving doesn't stop there! Keyrings and handbags will also feature the snowman and 25% of the precedes from those sales will be going to UNICEF.

The Gut Heard Round The World

Some of you may have already heard about this. Page 194 of September's issue of Glamour Magazine featured an un-altered photo of 20-year-old plus-sized model Lizzie Miller. It was a small photo, only 3 inches by 3 inches. But the outpouring was huge! Emails started pouring in the day the issue hit newsstands. Readers identified with a model that wasn't "perfect" and let's be honest, she's not "plus sized" by any standard than that of the modeling world.

So what's Glamour Magazine to do? With such an outpouring of support and identification, they've done what any other good company would do- Capitalize! Glamour is giving us all what we want! Page Six is reporting that the good people at Glamour will be featuring a handful of plus sized models in November's issue. Those to be featured include Lizzie Miller (again) Kate Dillon, Jennie Runk, Amy Lemons, Crystal Renn, Ashley Graham and Anansa Sims- all of which were said to have been photographed in the nude by Matthias Vriens.

We are positively pleased to see real women in a magazine and applaud Glamour for the decision! We'll eagerly be anticipating the November issue!

Japanese Weekend Maternity- We might be in Love!

Monday is here, and thus another installment in our Maternity wear series (you didn't think I'd turn you all loose to head to motherhood to wear the first drab, plaid, ruffly thing the sales girl slams toward you, did you?). Today's find is a company called Japanese Weekend. A cursory look over their website shows a wide variety of maternity styles- from business attire, to casual wear, to semi-formal. To me, that screams "one-stop shopping", which, in my book, is ALWAYS a plus! The website also seems to be a bit neurotically organized, which is ALSO a huge plus. When you go to check out the tops, for example, you have your choice of: sleeveless, short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, and long sleeves *swoon*

Some of our favorites from their collection include the Convertible Maternity Dress Go Skirt (yes, the little black must-have dress that can turn into a skirt, though it's perfect as a dress).

We're also in love with the Organic Dual Support Maternity Pant, which looks ultra-comfy ($68)

Lastly, we love this Vintage Knit Sleeveless Nursing Top ($52). It's super feminine and looks like to be flattering and forgiving to any pre and post-baby body (and we LOVE that around here!). Add in the bonus that it's a nursing top and it's a hands-down winner!

Now here's a little insider scoop on Japanese Weekend: All their sales and promotions are posted to Twitter. Check them out @JapaneseWeekend

Fashion Week Kicks off with a.....Snuggie?

That's right, this year at New York Fashion Week, amid all the glitz and glamor will be an entire runway show devoted to Snuggies and Snoggies. If you're unaware of the phenomenon, Snuggies are blankets with sleeves, and Snoggies are their newest line for dogs.

The show is to be hosted by Ross the intern, and to showcase "the latest colors, fabrics and patterns" as well as the "sexiest looks in blanket-wear and adult, kid, and even canine models will hit the runway".

We need to ask, what's next? Will the Hover Round be showing at Fashion Week? Perhaps the Slap Chop? Either way, we're mildly interested to see what The Snuggie (and the Snoggie) have up their sleeves.

Make a Statement this Winter- Statement Jewelry is BIG!

You may have noticed it in catalogues and on websites. This Winter's big trends for women include basic dresses (remember what we said about grey?), big boots, and big jewelry! What does this mean for you? You know those very plain, very basic, boring winter dresses you've had hiding in the back of your closet for the last 5, 10, 15 years? Maybe you won't admit they're that old, but you have 'em. Well, this year, basic dresses are IN! So break them out, take them to the dry cleaner and get yourself to accessorizing so nobody knows that you picked them up in 1994.

One of the most important (and fun) pieces of your Winter wardrobe this year is the statement necklace- a necklace that is big and in your face, but not in a bad way. In some circles, it's called "costume jewelry" (and it's important for you to know that term when shopping because not every clerk is going to know the newer "statement necklace" though they may have TONS).

Statement necklaces are really fun because there are so many options. Just about any store that has jewelry carries them, so you can get them to fit any budget. You can get them made entirely of stones, entirely of chains or a combination of both. You can get any combination of colors, and importantly, there are a ton of handcrafters that not only make one of a kind statement necklaces, but are also willing to make custom ones to your own specifications.

That being said, here are just a very few of FMC's favorites.

If you're looking for something inexpensive and on the smaller side (because sometimes taking the big leap into the world of big, chunky jewelry is scary), this axcess Gold-Tone Bead Y Necklace is a great option! It's versatile enough to work with many of the rich earth tones most women incorporate into their Winter wardrobes and small enough to not feel too bulky to those of us not willing to make the big leap. It originally retails for $24, but this weekend, Kohls has it for just $14!

If you're looking for something a little more elegant and you're willing to make more of an investment, the Cara Couture Multi Strand Chain Necklace is completely worthy of your affection. Available from Nordstrom for $98, the necklace drapes at all lengths between 18 and 36 inches. Chains are in multiple metals and multiple colors, so it literally will match anything (see why we called in an investment?). It's also available in shades of silver and black.

Of course, as always, eBay and etsy have a ton of awesome hand-crafted goodies as well. We particularly like this handmade White Pearl & Black Onyx Necklace by my_dream1960. The onyx rectangles and round white pearls are accented by a small, silver butterfly. Necklace measures 19.5 inches and costs just $5.99- a STEAL!

The last thing you should know is that Statement jewelry is EVERYWHERE! You can find it at big box stores, fine retail stores, jewelry stores or local fashion boutiques. Online, sites like Craigslist, ebay and etsy are all great sources. Also, be sure to check out local estate sales- many estate sales have a ton of "costume jewelry", which is really the same thing and you can pick it up for a bargain and be sure nobody else has the sweet antique piece you find. Lastly, if you can't find exactly what you're looking for, check out your local craft store- most of them offer jewelry-making classes. It's an easy craft to learn and you can pick up most of what you need for a song and get to creating your one of a kind pieces for yourself!

Nancy Talbot, co-founder of Talbot's retail clothing chain, has passed away at age 89

Sad news from Boulder, Colorado this week, where Nancy Talbot has passed away after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease.

Nancy and her husband, Rudolf Talbot inherited his father's small Hingham, Massachusetts clothing store in 1947. They renamed it "The Talbot's" and stocked it with brightly colored women's clothing that was influenced by Nancy's style. In their second year of business, they distributed 3,000 fliers to potential customers whose names they got from the mailing list of the New Yorker. It was the pre-cursor to the wildly successful catalogue that came to be.

By 1950, they had outgrown the little shop they had inherited and moved two blocks away to an old white house. They painted the front door red, which became a hallmark of Talbot's stores. In 1973, the chain was sold to General Mills for $6 million and Nancy stayed with the company as Vice President until 1983. Sadly, in 1987, her husband Rudolf passed away.

Nancy often attributed the success of Talbots to mere luck. Weather you loved or hated the fashion, she did have the right idea. In a 1980 internal memo she said "We look for clothes that are timeless because they are ladylike, simple but not contrived, gimmicky or extreme, smart but not faddy, fashionable but not funky -- chic and understated, the hallmarks of good taste."

Mrs. Talbot is survived by her two daughters, Polly Talbot-Donald of Colorado and Jane A. Winter of Missouri as well six grand children and six great-grandchildren.

Reason number 8,372,861 we love eBay!

Tu-tus! Yes, tu-tus! Even if you're a mom to boys only, these tutus will take you back! Weather you danced around in a tulle skirt as a child or only imagined yourself in a layered tutu performing Swan Lake, at some point, every little girl has dreamed of a tutu. These ones on eBay have been particularly drool worthy lately.

TheLittlePiggysMarket has an array of costume tutus that add a bit of playful whimsy to the fairytale tutu experience. Our favorites are the Tinkerbell and Sleeping Beauty incarnations, available in sizes between 12 months and 9 years for just $50 each. Added bonus: your sweet little one would be delighted to show these off for Halloween! Just add a tiara and a wand and she's ready to go with a one-of-a-kind costume. Who could resist?

Want something a little bigger? A little more elaborate? spoiled*rotten*girls has you covered! This costume maker caught our eye with her stunning Tinkerbell-inspired tu-tu dress! The combination of the harvest berry headpiece and the shimmering translucent green wings made our hearts flutter, but in reading the auction, we found that she does much, much more! She actually will customize the entire costume, from head to toe, with choice of colors, flowers, headpieces and wings! It's the ultimate one-of-a-kind costume experience and if you think $125 is too much, have no fear- she takes best offers too!

Still want the tu-tu experience without dropping the big bucks? These outfits from ChristiCreations*applique are gorgeous and playful without being over the top! Our fav is the You Are My SunShine birthday party tu-tu set (only $36.99 and available in sizes 12 mos-6 years). Your set will be made with your choice of any 2-3 of her 42 color options and includes the personalized cupcake shirt with puffy sleeves (or basic onsie), hairbow or flower clippie (headbands can be added) and of course, the precious little tu-tu! Gorgeous and absolutely drool-worthy! We love it!

Winter's hottest makeup color is black! WHAT?!

Some of you love Twilight and some of you LOVE Twilight. Are you die hard enough for this? The hands-down hottest makeup color this Winter is black. Yes, black. And I don't mean some kind of "paint-your-face-white-we're-going-back-to-1998-to-be-goth-in-high-school-kind-of-black"....I mean..yummy yummy Edward Cullen, gloomy day, let's take a little piece of him with us, dare-you-to-wear-it-kind-of-black.

The choices this season are endless from the relatively demure Dark Room nail polish by OPI for Sephora ($9 exclusively at Sephora) to the frighteningly dark Style Black collection by MAC (released in US September 24th, Internationally in October).

But if you're a true fan (and I know MANY of you reading are), you'll be interested in the Twilight Beauty collection....that's right....Twilight Beauty.....It's actually a bit subtle...Not overly dark. Still some black, but some rose tints too. Nowhere near as dark as the MAC collection and dare I say some of it is......PRETTY! *GASP*

The collection is overwhelmed in cool tones and earth tones- the perfect blends for any skin type as we go into Winter. As for price: Well....It's a bit more than Cover Girl and okay...it's a bit pricier than the ghoulish MAC collection....but what *IF* you happen to run into Robert Pattinson on the street and he sees you wearing something other than official Twilight makeup....and the moment is.....lost!

The choice of course, is yours!

Remember growing up, how you always needed to have a cool place to store your stuff? Lunch money gets tossed around in your backpack and keys always seem to fall out of your pocket. Bluepiedesigns on Etsy has your kids covered! These sweet secret stash cuffs zip closed on the inside to protect your little one's valuables then Velcro closed to create a fashion statement they can keep track of!

These bracelets remind me so much of the slap bracelets we had when I was a kid (don't get me started on how many of those neon things I had) and I love how Bluepiedesigns has thought a lot about making these fashionable for boys too! With designs from purses to Batman, all your kids are covered! Brilliant!

We love these Target Boots

Yes, we know Uggs were big last year (and those of you who feel ultra-trendy might even say the year before), but we're calling this sweet Ugg-inspired range from Target as the must-have toddler girl's shoe this year. With 5 colors to choose from, there's really no excuse not to snatch up these $17.99 beauties that are as individual as your own little girl.

Each boot is suede on the outside, with thick, sturdy stitching. Faux-fur lines the inside for a warm, fuzzy feel on the coldest winter days. Colors include tan, chocolate, light pink, fuchsia and dark purple. These boots also sport a zipper (don't worry, it's hidden on the inner part of the leg) for those toddler who *ahem* need a bit more space to squeeze their feet into boots.

Need more reason to snatch these up? How about matching mommy boots?

The women's version are currently available for $25 and come in tan, chestnut and gray. If you want to be in style this winter, we HIGLY recommend the gray- gray is THE color for women's wear this season and you will be seeing it everywhere- from runways, to Boden to whatever womenswear rack you are shopping, gray is replacing black this year so this boot will go with anything you pick up.
