The pictures include the long suspected western line with a cowboy hat, some fair isle girl's pieces, dogs for boys (in colors reminiscent of Seafaring Style), Halloween pumpkins for both boys and girls and a girl's purple line with detailed deer and trees.

P.S. by Aeropostale Launches!

A few months ago, FMC reported that Aeropostale was working on a new concept called P.S. (for "Pint Sized". P.S. has now launched with the first store opening in West Nyack, New York. The store targets 7-12 year olds and boasts full-length mirrors with cameras built in. Tweens can take pictures of themselves which are instantly displayed on screens within the store.

Though West Nyack is the only location currently open, the company is set to open 12 more in the near future, including 7 in New Jersey, 2 more in New York, 1 in Connecticut, 1 in California and 1 at the Mall of America in Minnesota.

The website http://www.ps4u.com/ though live, is not currently offering online ordering. It does however host a Lookbook for Fall fashions, which features the Fall standards of brown, orange and grey, but intersperses outfits of bright blue and a subdued light green.

Company spokespeople are quick to say that P.S. is not a "test concept", but a full on division, and with good reason: the company recently closed their 11 Jimmy'Z concept stores- a division geared toward shoppers in their late teens and early twenties. And though Abercrombie & Fitch is closing their long struggling Ruehl (which targeted the same demographic as P.S.), Aeropostale expects to achieve success in the market by going after market share from Crewcuts and Abercrombie for Kids.

For more discussion of P.S., please join us on our forum by going to http://www.fashionmomcafe.com/fmcforums or clicking the "Forum" button at the top of this page.

Old Navy to remodel 50 stores...Gap opens outlets in UK

At the ultra-exclusive Piper Jaffray consumer conference this morning, officials for Gap announced that 50 of it's Old Navy stores will be remodeled this year in hopes of boosting sales. Old Navy has been rumored to be on the verge of closure for the last 5 years. The brand has tested the new store design in 2 California stores with good reviews.

Though FMC was unable to find either of the California test stores, we did find that the store in St. Petersburg, FL opened in November of 2007 with a sleek, new look, appearing more like a Banana Republic than a big box store. The "Old Navy" signs are replaced by "ON"- the newer logo. Art on the walls changes seasonally, rock gardens and faux bamboo accent the pink pedestal tables. The floors and ceilings are finished and all in all, it feels like a regular store.

It's a good step for Old Navy, whom analysts predict is poised for success in our new value-based economy. But it IS a first step and Old Navy has more hurdles to overcome. Hopefully the recent addition of Mark Breitbard as Chief Merchandising and Creative Officer is enough to bring Old Navy back from the brink.

In other news from the conference, Gap plans to expand to have 40 more stores worldwide as well as a bigger push to open Gap Outlets in the UK, Japan and Canada. Additionally, Piperlime has aquired agreements with approximately 50 new labels to carry their merchandise on their website.

BREAKING NEWS: Stella McCarney joins with Gap for exclusive children's line

FMC has learned that Stella McCarney, daughter of famed Beatle Paul McCartney and world famous fashion designer has officially teamed up with Gap to create a line of childrens clothing later this year. The collection will be avaliable online and in only select BabyGap and GapKids stores worldwide.

McCartney has said that she has long wanted to create a line for children. She went on to say "I believe that kid's clothing should be more accessibly priced, which is particularly important at the moment, given the current climate".

The San Francisco Chronicle gives Insight into what's to come for Gymbo

A great article in Sunday's Chronicle gave insight as to what to expect from Gymboree later this year. It focused on a little girl fit model and zeroed in on her experience working for Gymboree. Says the Chronicle:

For the next 90 minutes, she tried on a dozen or so prototypes for next season and beyond: lots of jeans and basic T-shirts; a leopard swimsuit; a winter coat with a faux fur collar; two party dresses; a skirt; a couple of sweaters and for the finale, a dramatic white astronaut jumpsuit Halloween costume, all part of the Kid Girl line.

When she emerged from the dressing room in a dressy red sweater with a big collar and black and white velvet ribbon trim, she looked uncomfortable, instinctively tugging at the bulky collar, a cross between a cowl and a turtleneck...."Let's bring it back to a turtleneck." And so, this winter, the red sweater will be on the racks in its new incarnation.

Lily tried on a lavender quilted corduroy skirt and smiled. Perfect. She tried skinny dark denim jeans with a zip at the ankle and star appliqués on the back pockets.

The article also had pictures- a leopard print swimsuit, dark washed jeans with a bright pink belt, a color-block dress reminiscent of Janie & Jack's Aviary, a red and black plaid dress, a long black coat, and a double-sleeved shirt with colors similar to last year's Winter Snowflake but with the word "LOVE" emblazoned across the chest.

FMC EXCLUSIVE news on Janie & Jack

While the world of J&J shoppers are in a flurry to shop Season Finale, FMC has been talking behind to those in the know behind the scenes!

We previously reported on a pink and brown "confetti" line- reminiscent of Sweet Confetti from 2005 (oddly enough, the year J&J seems to be emulating). Now we can report EXCLUSIVELY that the window dressing for this Fall Transition line will be a cream colored cake plate with faux petit fours! All mini cakes are in a white wrapper with brown striping. Some are white and round with pink "frosting" flowers. Another is square and white with a trio of white, pink and purple flowers. Another is light pink with pink roses and white piping. Lastly are rectangular, dark brown, chocolate-looking ones with a single rose iced on top.

This line is gearing up to be really beautiful. You can find it in stores Sunday, June 28th at midnight Eastern. In store times to follow that week.
